Incorporating TikTok in higher education: Pedagogical perspectives from a corporal expression sport sciences course
2021
Abstract Social media have revolutionised the way humans communicate and socialise. Education is also changing; social media are transforming educational environments, and online or blended learning are increasingly used. The COVID-19 pandemic has further accelerated this change. In this paper, we present an educational innovation where TikTok (a social media that is based on creating and sharing 15–60-s video, which has experienced a significant breakthrough during the COVID-19 pandemic) is used as a pedagogical tool. 65 Spanish sport science students participated in this study. A mixed research method was designed to analyse the effect of TikTok use on students. The SPSS 23.0 and NVivo12 …
Brain and body percussion : the relationship between motor and cognitive functions
2015
The focus of this thesis is the relationship between embodied motor rhythmic exercises (e.g. body percussion) and executive functions. Decades’ long successful application of this method within general classrooms and in music education led to the hypothesis that body percussion could have a positive impact on core cognitive functions also referred to as executive functions. Two pilot experiments were conducted to test proper settings for investigating the above-mentioned relationship. Experiment 1 piloted the use of neuropsychological tests with pre- and post-measures of the Tower of London (TOL) neuropsychological test. Experiment 2 piloted the use of an electroencephalography (EEG) device…
Naturalistic music and dance: Cortical phase synchrony in musicians and dancers
2018
Expertise in music has been investigated for decades and the results have been applied not only in composition, performance and music education, but also in understanding brain plasticity in a larger context. Several studies have revealed a strong connection between auditory and motor processes and listening to and performing music, and music imagination. Recently, as a logical next step in music and movement, the cognitive and affective neuro-sciences have been directed towards expertise in dance. To understand the versatile and overlapping processes during artistic stimuli, such as music and dance, it is necessary to study them with continuous naturalistic stimuli. Thus, we used long exce…
